Team Captain at Exeter City
When the war was over, Dick returned to Exeter City FC as team captain and by 1920 had made 186 consecutive Club appearances. This achievement was marked by the presentation of a gold watch.
Not everyone was so lucky. One team member and four former players had been killed. Billy Smith, who was due to transfer to Everton, was shot by a sniper the day after the war ended and lost his right leg.
